Instruction from former MLB pitcher, Mike Johnston
Former left-handed pitcher Mike Johnston reached the majors with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2004 after steady development through the minor leagues beginning in the late 1990s. From 2002 onward, he progressed as a versatile arm, ultimately making 25 MLB relief appearances and recording 20 strikeouts.
Across a professional career spanning more than a decade, Johnston built a strong minor league résumé with consistent performance and durability. His journey is especially notable for overcoming Tourette syndrome to compete at the highest level—underscoring a career defined by resilience, adaptability, and perseverance.
He was recently inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame at his alma mater, Garrett College. He is the proud father of four children and resides in Upper Bucks county Pennsylvania.
